Painting Nessebar in Chicago

In our PATREON collection Bridges Bulgaria – America”, we present a special video from an inspiring art event held at Snowlike Studio in Schaumburg, Illinois. We gathered Bulgarians from different generations, all united by a love for art and a deep nostalgia for our homeland. Together, we painted Nessebar – one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Bulgaria. 🇧🇬

As our brushes brought color to the canvas, Bulgarian music filled the air – from folk songs to beloved pop classics. There was laughter, fun, conversations filled with memories of summers on the Black Sea… and a deep sense of pride. Pride that, even far from Bulgaria, our hearts remain connected – through culture, language, and art.

🖼️ But why did we choose to paint Nessebar?

Nessebar is not just a city – it’s a living memory of thousands of years of history. Located on a small peninsula in the Black Sea, Nessebar is one of the oldest cities in Europe, with over 3,000 years of history. Founded by the Thracians, later ruled by Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, and Bulgarians, it bears the imprint of many cultures and civilizations. Its cobblestone streets, old wooden houses, and countless churches packed into a small area make it not only an architectural wonder but also a spiritual symbol of Bulgarian identity.

💙 Nessebar takes us back to our roots – to summer, to childhood memories, to the taste of salty sea water and warm sand.

With this video, we hope to build yet another small bridge between Bulgaria and our new life in America. We invite you to watch it, to smile with us – and why not – to paint Nessebar yourself!

This collection will continue to share gatherings, events, and inspiring moments of Bulgarians abroad who preserve their connection to home through culture and creativity.
